Cantabile Singers Remembrance Concert
November 10 @ 5:00 pm $30.00
Commemorating the Centenary of Armistice 2018
The First World War (1914-1918) ended with the Armistice on the 11 November 1918, one
hundred years ago. Almost 62,000 Australians died in the world’s first global war, a terrible
conflict that killed over 9 million soldiers and 7 million civilians. As a nation, we
commemorate the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts on 11th November –
Remembrance Day. Our Remembrance Concert will feature John Rutter’s Requiem.
The English composer, John Rutter, composed his Requiem for soprano solo, mixed choir
and small orchestra in 1985. Five of its seven movements are based on text from the
Latin Requiem Mass, and his work is often inspired by the spirituality of sacred verses and
prayers. Rutter has been called “the most gifted composer of his generation”.
The Requiem is a moving piece of music that offers hope, which is why we have chosen this
work to honour the sacrifice of all who gave their lives in the Great War. The Cantabile
Singers performance will include soprano soloist, Bethany Hill and a small orchestra. In
addition to the Requiem, the choir will also perform other works, including Rutter’s The Lord
Bless You and Keep You.
We are privileged to include short readings from Australian veterans who have given service
to their country. We hope many veterans and their families can join us in this
commemorative concert. All welcome.
