Army vs RAAF – Armistice Day Charity  Shield

The 2nd Baker-Gordon ADF Charity Shield Cricket Match will be held at Payneham Oval , John Street, Payneham, on Sunday 18 Nov 18.

The event is part of a partnership between the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation and local South Australian ADF elements including Navy Headquarters – SA, RAAF Edinburgh and the Army.  The Match is named after two distinguished South Australian soldiers/airmen who served on the ground with the Australian Imperial Force and in the air with  the Australian Flying Corps in World War 1 – Thomas Charles Richmond Baker DFC, who was killed in action on 04 Nov 1918 and John Rutherford Gordon MC.

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of World War 1 and the tragic death of Lieutenant Thomas Charles Richmond Baker, one of Australia’s highest recording Air Aces of World War 1, killed in action in the last major aerial combat of World War 1, this years cricket match will be a key event of South Australia’s commemoration of the Centenary of the Armistice.

Family activities are planned throughout the day with interactive displays from the Army, Air Force and Navy and a performance from the Navy Band (courtesy of Navy HQ – SA), plus food and beverages available throughout the day.

So bring your family, a picnic and a rug and join the WCH Foundation and our local ADF community for the 2nd Baker-Gordon Charity Shield Cricket Match.

Admission is free with ADF and WCHF collecting donations on the day in support of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation.
