Veterans’ Employment program

Here at RSL SA we recognize that the demographic of veterans is changing landscape, and we acknowledge that the values, behaviours, and practices of RSL SA need to keep pace with the contemporary Australian community through understanding diversity, inclusion, change, digital connectivity, and innovative ways of delivering services. There is a younger cohort of veterans who can gain meaningful employment and actively contribute to their community around them. If you are of retirement age, then keep in mind your immediate family members, can use our RSL SA employment supports!

This is where the RSL Veterans’ Employment Program offers holistic support to veterans, their partners, immediate family members, reservists, and allied veterans. The needs and priorities of today’s serving and past serving men and women have changed, and we need to adapt and respond to them.

Today’s defence force personnel increasingly serve on multiple deployments in a variety of operations, from armed conflicts to peacekeeping missions and disaster recovery. They bring with them different attitudes, needs, priorities and expectations. We need to look more holistically at the social and economic support needs of both older and younger generations, including employment, housing, mental health and financial services for them and their families. We need to continuously provide comradeship and promote community recognition of their contribution.

The type of support the Veterans’ Employment Program offers:

  • Career transitioning, which assists with translating your military skills and experience for a meaningful civilian career.

  • The option of career navigation, which can support you in navigating both job options and pathways.

  • Specialised career coaching to help you decide on a pathway forward.

  • Assistance in creating and or updating your cover letter and resume.

  • Support and preparation for interviewing techniques.

  • Advice surrounding pathway programs to upskill.

  • Connections to potential employers who support the hiring of veterans and their immediate families.

RSL SA have recently interviewed client, Christopher (Reservist) who enquired to our Veterans’ Employment Program having lost his job in January 2023.
