Aboriginal Veterans Commemorative Service 2022
The Aboriginal Veterans Commemorative Service at the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander War Memorial finished off Reconciliation Week on Friday 3/6/22. The commemoration acknowledges military service and sacrifice by generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicewomen and servicemen to Australia and the world in war, campaigns, peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.
HMAS Encounter Commissioning 28/5/22
HMAS Encounter has been recommissioned as a naval base for RAN Headquarters SA. The commissioning ceremony was conducted at the Torrens Parade Ground, Adelaide on Saturday 28th May 2022
The Art Of Sacrifice
Renowned artist and author George Petrou OAM kindly presented a copy of his latest work, The Art Of Sacrifice, to the RSL South Australia collection. The Art Of Sacrifice is the haunting and poignant product born of a transformative period in the Melbourne artist’s life.
Over 70 portraits, 63 stories, 425 pages and numerous serendipitous moments, George explores the idea of valour, of courage, bravery, and of sacrifice. Using images of the past and stories of today, he connects the past with our present within a unique and powerful environment.
Opening of state parliament 3/5/22
On Tuesday 3/5/22 an artillery salute was fired at Torrens Parade Ground for the opening of the SA Parliament.
